EDUCATION SYSTEM OF UTTARAKHAND
Uttarakhand is one of the most beautiful and enchanting regions of northern India. Uttarakhand was named the 27th state of the Republic of India on November 9, 2000. Dehra Dun is the capital of the state, famous for some of the country’s prestigious institutions like the Forest Research Institute and Himalayas Institute of Medical Sciences. Institutes like the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration located at Mussoorie and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Roorkee are famous worldwide for their quality education and research.
According to the 2001 census, Uttarakhand’s literacy rate was 72.28% which showed a sharp increase of 14.53% as compared to the literacy rate according to the 1991 census. The state has 6 state universities, 2 deemed universities, one institute of national importance (IIT), 3 medical colleges and several engineering and management colleges.
